Witch's Beard

The lichens that are so profusely attached to the trees were perhaps the most familiar aspects of the natural history of the area. Maybe because they are genetically the most simple and hence there isn't much room for diversity across the thousands of miles and millions of years of separation from my home?

The spagnum moss in particular loved it here. I subsequently found out that one of its local names is 'Witch's Beard'. This chimes quite well with what I know of its psychoactive properties.
